CELEBS
Tex Hollywood - August 10, 2022
Celebrity is fleeting. Which I guess like any job, career, relationship, experience including life itself. Things just organically start to slowly fade out because people don't shift and adapt to the times and work hard at keeping things optimized.
But celebrity has more at stakes for the people involved. Hot one minute, booking all the jobs one minute, feeling the top of your game with Oscar on the shelf in your mansion one minute, only to be basically blacklisted and banished to irrelevance the next.
Which is why all celebrities, even the A-Listers have taken on social media as a strategy to keep their fans caring, to keep themselves trending, to keep the momentum going, otherwise they'd just disappear since social media is life.
So seeing these celebrities, who are high paid, top tier, advertiser friendly, doing their best version of an influencer trying to be a celebrity is always hilarious to me. I guess I come from an era where celebrity was just celebrity and we didn't intermingle.
Luckily, when these celebs are doing their best to influence, something they didn't sign up to when they first became celebrities, but now do, likely through their assistants, since they are still celebrities, their "user generated content" to make us think they are just like us, relatable and interesting, involves some T&A, a little salaciousness because skin gets more engagement and in this automated Artificial Intelligence run world, engagement is the scoring system when you take meetings with producers, brand partners, etc. It is their currency!
So Brie Larson, the Oscar winning, Captain Marvel starring A-Lister is turning to social media to promote herself, in activewear because she does fitness, and while laying in bed, and it's a nice approach to self promotion of a celebrity, what a weird era!
