The highlight of the shoot was seeing the Sony Walkman. It always makes me laugh when old tech gets repurposed as new tech, especially when the old tech has so many flaws. For one, the audio quality of cassettes is pretty shit. Then there's the whole battery thing, you have to actually buy batteries, making me think this hip and cool revival is sponsored by Energizer. Then there's the getting good audio cassettes, when you can just use spotify off your phone for better quality, but then there's the whole idea of a group of people not using smart phones, which is something I subscribe to despite having a smart phone, because this data, tracking, social media, noise doesn't make our lives better. Maybe busting out a Walkman and an old Cyndi Lauper tape is the glory days of humanity.
