The film world recently lost an actress of staggering import. For an immeasurable number of fans Margot Kidder did not only play the role of Lois Lane in a couple of movies, she was Lois Lane. It is rare that a fictional character, especially one that existed so long before an actor even took up the mantle, becomes so closely tied to the person who played them on screen.
To many Sean Connery is James Bond, Leonard Nimoy is Spock, and Margot is Lois regardless of whatever other pair of boobs try to fill the bra that she left vacant. And that number is many, and some can even be considered memorable. Sadly, they just were not authentic. It does not matter how earnest the following actress played the role, not one was able to break free from the shadow that Margot’s perky personality, and body, immortalized on the screen.
It is hard for someone to realistically portray an intelligent investigative reporter who still cannot figure out that Superman’s alter ego is her coworker, but she did it spectacularly, and ever since then people have been trying to recapture that magic.
