I am hard pressed to think of another woman who I like this much while despising her name. And I am not talking about Goodwin. I have no problem with that one. It is a strong name. It is easy to pronounce. It is easy to understand. All around, I would be happy to have my future daughter marry into a Goodwin family.
What I do take issue with is Ginnifer.
Ginnifer is not a name, and it is not her birth name. She only changed it to Ginnifer so that she would stand out more, which feels borderline immoral. Now every time someone reads her name they have to toss a coin to decide whether it is a hard or soft G.
I do not care if the name belongs to a woman with an angelic face, we are supposed to conduct ourselves as civilized people. How can anyone claiming to be civilized change their name to whatever they want at a moment’s notice? Imagine if everyone did that. It would be pandemonium. There would be kids running around demanding that they be called Peppa Pig. And we would have to give in since we already set the precedent with Ginnifer.
