I will admit that seeing Kerry Washington as a naked slave in Django Unchained was led to some very conflicting emotions.
On one hand she was a slave who was being abused by her owner in a detestable way. But on the other hand, she was naked, and that is a sight to behold.
Before you judge me too harshly it is important to take into account context. For one, I had never seen her nude before, so that scene was like a dream come true. Do I wish it had been under other circumstances? Of course, I do. I’m not a monster. But if that is how it had to happen, then that is how I was forced to take it.
And that does not even touch on the fact that it was only a movie. She was not really a slave. She was not actually being abused. But those were her real boobs, so what harm was actually being done?
None from what I can tell. And if Kerry baring it all is what was necessary for the horrors of slavery to once again be brought to light on film, then I think that is a selfless, noble act. And it is one that I will continue to watch to, you know, spread awareness.
