If you're of a certain age, Phoebe Cates' pool scene in Fast Times at Ridgemont High was a formative part of your sexual awakening. There honestly may be no more perfect nude scene in the history of cinema than seeing her take off her top in slow motion to the amazing "Moving in Stereo" by The Cars. The fact that the reveal occurs on the downbeat is just proof that a lot of tender loving care went into making this moment iconic.
In the early 80s, every guy who was into brunettes instantly fell for Phoebe. She was that perfect combination of girl next door innocence and the ever unattainable hottest girl in school. It feels like you could've grown up next door to her and she doesn't even know your name, but god damn it if that's not 99% of her appeal. Who didn't want to just comfort her when she told that sob story about her dad dying in the chimney in Gremlins, but at the same time, who didn't want to help her out of those red bikini bottoms and take her right there on the diving board in Fast Times?
I wish Phoebe's career had more depth to it, but what she's given us has been an absolute treasure trove. Phoebe knows better than anyone to always leave them wanting more!
