It is a good thing that I am not a casting director, because I would have never had the vision to put Alison Brie in the role of a wrestler and then we might have never seen her outside of that leotard. Had I been in charge of the casting for GLOW I would have stacked it with women that look like that monster from The Goonies. I am not referring to Sloth, but his mother.
They would not have been as aesthetically pleasing as the divas that modern audiences are used to, but they wouldn’t worry about taking a chair to the face and overall it would have felt more realistic. In my experience, the women who are the best fighters in real life are the ones who have a few extra pounds on them. Being able to put a little more than your hundred pounds of body weight behind a punch goes a long way towards defeating your opponent.
The skinny girls always resort to hair pulling. Don’t get me wrong, it is effective, but it isn’t much of a crowd pleaser. What the people want to see is a person picked up above their opponents head and dropped on their face.
