A surefire way to creep anyone out is to bring them into a room lit only by red lightbulbs. Even photographers never get used to them. So, unless you are looking to never get laid again, I suggest keeping your lighting as bright as possible when bringing a new person in.

If you really have your heart set on mood lighting I suggest buying a child’s nightlight. It will keep the room lit well enough, while not creeping anyone out. If you get one that shines the solar system on your walls it will be even better. Space is in right now, so all of the ladies would be loving it. Candles are fine, but they run the risk of burning your place down. You decide if it is worth it.
