How the top hat could go out of style still leaves me devastated to this day. It used to be that you could not throw a rock down the street without having it skip across the heads of a dozen men each wearing them. Not they are few and far between. The only people in recent memory that I can remember seeing with them on are either Abraham Lincoln impersonators or are performing in a cabaret show.
That just goes to show that you can never be certain on which styles are going to survive the test of time. One day we could find ourselves scoffing at the idea of wearing a baseball cap because it is only meant for old men. Instead, all of the hip kids will be placing eco-friendly plastic bags over their heads because that is what’s now considered stylish.
Or maybe the top hat will manage to find its way back into the public’s favor. It has not yet been ruined by neckbeards like the fedora has, so I think there is still hope. If anyone detrimental shows signs of ruining the hat’s comeback it is our responsibility as good citizens to do what is necessary to prevent it.
